Merry Christmas from the Potters! During this Advent season, my focus has been on the
humanity of the birth of Jesus. Through
his birth, God was with us, Emmanuel. During this season, I always tend to
focus on a scripture and a hymn. My hymn has been“Hark! the Herald Angels Sing”. I love the line “God and sinners
reconciled”. Because of his birth and ultimate death, we were granted the grace
of God that we didn’t earn but that was given freely. My scripture focus this
season has been John 1:1-5. To me, Jesus is the light that will drive out the
darkness. No matter our troubles, he is there.
John 1:1-5
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things
were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life,
and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and
the darkness has not overcome it.
Hark! The Herald Angels Sing
Hark! the herald angels sing,
"Glory to the newborn King!"
Peace on earth, and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled
Joyful, all ye nations, rise,
Join the triumph of the skies;
With th' angelic host proclaim,
"Christ is born in Bethlehem."
Hark! the herald angels sing,
"Glory to the newborn King!"
Christ, by highest heav'n adored:
Christ, the everlasting Lord;
Late in time behold him come,
Offspring of the favored one.
Veil'd in flesh, the Godhead see;
Hail, th'incarnate Deity:
Pleased, as man, with men to dwell,
Jesus, our Emmanuel!
Hark! the herald angels sing,
"Glory to the newborn King!"
Hail! the heav'n born Prince of peace!
Hail! the Son of Righteousness!
Light and life to all he brings,
Risen with healing in his wings
Mild he lays his glory by,
Born that man no more may die:
Born to raise the sons of earth,
Born to give them second birth.
Hark! the herald angels sing,
"Glory to the newborn King!"
